Loay Elbasyouni
Loay Elbasyouni is a Palestinian-German-American electrical and computer engineer. He helped design the Mars rover Perseverance (rover), Perseverance and was an electrical and power electronics lead in the team that built the Ingenuity (helicopter), Ingenuity helicopter. Early life Elbasyouni was born in Germany while his father was studying medicine in that country. He moved to Beit Hanoun in Gaza Strip, Gaza when he was five years old. He lived through the First Intifada, a period in which the academic year was shortened to as few as eighty days. He attended UNRWA schools during his primary and secondary education. In 1998, he moved to the United States at the age of twenty to continue higher education. He received a master's degree in Electrical engineering from the University of Louisville in 2005. Ingenuity (helicopter)
''Ingenuity'', nicknamed ''Ginny'', is an autonomous NASA helicopter that operated on Mars from 2021 to 2024 as part of the Mars 2020 mission. ''Ingenuity'' made its first flight on 19 April 2021, demonstrating that flight is possible in the extremely thin atmosphere of Mars, and becoming the first aircraft to conduct a powered and controlled extra-terrestrial flight. The Azure Dynamics Transit Connect Electric is an all-electric van developed as a collaboration between Azure Dynamics and Ford Motor Company, but Azure was the official manufacturer of record. Beit Hanoun
Beit Hanoun or Beit Hanun () is a Palestinian city on the northeast edge of the Gaza Strip. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the town had a population of 52,237 in 2017. As a result of the ongoing Gaza war, Beit Hanoun has been militarily contested between the Hamas administration and Israel. Furthermore, the town has been entirely depopulated, and virtually all its structures have either been destroyed or rendered unusable due to extreme damage.
